How To Install A Hand Held Shower Filter
As an long time user of shower filters and someone who has moved house quite a few times I have had a lot of experience with installing shower filters in various types of showers. I also tend to get a lot of questions from friends who have just bought their shower filter or friends who are interested in buying a shower filter but are not sure if they will be able to fit them by themselves.
Many of my older friends who are keen on realising the benefits of shower filters often ask me if it is something they can do for themselves or if they need to get a plumber in to help them with.
Therefore I have decided to write an article on how to install a shower filter for all my friends and anyone out there who has concerns regarding how to install a shower filter. So let the shower filter installation begin!
What You Will Need:
- A Shower Filter
- A Shower with an existing hand held shower head & shower hose
- Optional : A new shower hose
How To Prepare:
- Make sure that your shower filter is clean and completely dry.
- Make sure that the pipe you are attaching the shower filter to is completely dry.
- Ensure that your shower is dry as well, don't install your shower filter just after a shower or if the shower floor is wet as you may slip and hurt yourself. So please ensure your shower is completely dry before installing.

Hand Held Shower Filter Types
- These types of shower filters are probably the easiest to install.
- Hand Held Shower heads are always fixed onto the end of metal or plastic shower hoses.
- The fittings on the shower hoses are generally 1.5 Inch BSP (British Standard Pipe) size. These sizes are pretty much standard throughout the world, from Asia, America, Europe and even Australia. So even though the standard is called BSP - the thread size is 1.5 Inch.
- Simply remove your existing hand held shower head from the end of the shower hose by turning the whole hand held shower head body in an anti-clock wise direction until the shower head comes away from the hose.
- Remember to tilt the shower head upwards, as there will be residual water in the shower hose. So that when you remove the shower head water does not splash all over you.
- Once you remove the shower head from the hose, undoubtedly some water will come out of the head or the hose and you will need to wipe this down and dry the hose.
- Then simply line up the Shower Filter's 'male' end with the 'female' end of the shower hose and screw on the Shower Filter by hand in an clock-wise direction. Creating a nice tight seal.
- After this - you're done!
